The subclass is great for exploration and damage builds but it’s better to avoid damage then trying to tank. Horizon Walkers with sword and board and the duelling fighting style are pretty solid. The horizon Walker bonus action is only an improvement if you’ve got some concentration spell up that doesn’t improve each attack. Even then, a spear with PAM and dueling style is going to do 1d6 + 5 + 2 (10.5) vs 2d8 (11) from Planar Warrior.
