The Nem1-Spo7 complex in the yeast Saccharomyces cerevisiae is a protein phosphatase that catalyzes the dephosphory-lation of Pah1 phosphatidate phosphatase, required for its translocation to the nuclear/endoplasmic reticulum membrane. The Nem1-Spo7/Pah1 phosphatase cascade plays a major role in triacylglycerol synthesis and in the regulation of phospholipid synthesis.This more complex structure extends the half-life of steroid hormones much longer than that of hormones derived from amino acids. A hormone’s half-life is the time required for half the concentration of the hormone to be degraded. For example, the lipid-derived hormone cortisol has a half-life of approximately 60 to 90 minutes.The study included 2,178 people who attended the Lipid Clinic of the Laval Medical Center in Quebec City between 1995 and 2005. Comparisons between the different groups were calculated using ANOVA, Tukey's honest significant difference and Spearman correlation coefficients were determined to assess the significance of the associations.
