It will run for a bit, I'll watch the temperature rise, and it'll shut off, sometimes before hitting temp, and the temp just starts dropping. It doesn't show any errors on the screen.Absolutely can grill with the lid open - the 800 comes with a griddle and you pretty much always keep the lid open when griddling.
