A comp is definitely not necessary on the x macro, it's a very smooth shooting gun.To get the 43x mos to the level of a xmacro you'd have to spend significantly more money. Glock 43x mos $485, PMM barrel and comp $360, decent night sights $75, optic mounting plate $50. 2 shield mags $80. Total $1045. Sig xmacro has all that for $800. I'm neither a Sig nor Glock guy, but I ended up getting the Macro Tacops.
