K22 Premium Member · #5 · Feb 24, 2021. The 3rd edition of the standard catalog is pretty clear about three letter serial prefixes. They began coming out in the transition years of 1980-1983. There will be large gaps in any serial sequence and they were used out of sequence. ABL4000 was Jan 1983 and ADE6700 was Oct 1983.You can, however, get the approximate manufacture date free from S&W or from the Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson. Frames were produced in batches and serial numbered at that time. When an order is received the frame is pulled, assembled and shipped.
