The way to avoid it is to make sure you are not in combat after the boss dies before you jump off the edge. If you are, you will get stuck as a corpse at the bottom with no way to release. Once you level to 120 and get gear up above ilvl 400 you should be able to solo LFR. As for the mage - he won't list Tomb of Sargeras, but instead it will list each wing of the different raids.
