Considering the ancient nature of Turkish language, it is classified as a member of the Altaic language family—the same as that of Mongolic, Koreanic and Tungusic languages. However, upon further studies on the Turkish language, it was found out that it belongs to the Oghuz branch of languages, originating from Proto-Turkic.Rather then language branches its geographic position is more important. For example Turkish ,Azerbaijani, Kırım Tatar more then 80 percent understandable between each other (even though Kırım Tatar is from Kıpçak branch).
